These two quartets, composed several years apart, are linked in that they were both written with familial subjects in mind: Bridges, for my sister’s wedding, and Footprints, as a memorial to Gabriella Spina, her first child. While one tries to depict a calm, blissful state, the other wallows in abject despair.
